Well, this is our last night at home for Christmas. Kelsey and I are headed back to the apartment tomorrow afternoon. It will be nice to be back to our normal routineyI like being home, but after a while I get homesick of my other home at school, lol.
I got a new laptop from my parents for Christmas, it is a HP Envy 14, and is awesome. It is a lot lighter and smaller than my older laptop and is a lot better built for my needs at school. The entire chassis is made of a metal alloy and is almost always cool to the touch. The keyboard is island style, similar to a Macbook. It has a fast Core i5 processor with six gigs of ram for some pretty fast computations. One of the coolest things, however, is the switchable graphics. It has both an integrated Intel graphics chipset, and a dedicated ATI card. I have it set up to automatically switch to the integrated graphics when it is running on battery, which saves a lot of power. The ATI card is fairly powerful though, so when I am plugged in it can actually handle quite a bit of graphical work and gaming.
The battery life is well over three hours when doing simple tasks such as word processing and browsing the web. There is an added accessory that I may end up purchasing eventually called the Slice battery. It is a very thin battery that is the size of the bottom of the laptop. It connects to the bottom and extends the battery life to up to ten hours! It does add another pound or so of weight though and makes the laptop a little bit thicker. It may be nice to have thought on days when I know that I will be needing my laptop in class a lot.
I’m sure one of us will post another update when we get back to the apartment.
Until then,
Michael
