In reality, time flies. A few months can seem like nothing, but college has this way of dragging out each second. For some, the homework and exams are endless. It seems like so long since Christmas, but really it’s nothing. We sit back in our hometown for Spring break, for me it’s been rough thus far, but figuring it all out. Tomorrow, I start the babysitting of my foster-sister/cousin. She’s three and a beast when she wants. She’s not the kind to cooperate, but moreover to do what she want, when she wants and how she wants. It’s cute at first to hear her wittiness and see her reactions, but it gets frustrating at times. These times happen to be when she repeats your name getting louder and louder until you answer. Another ‘great’ time happens to be when we put her to bed and after two hours of iCarly, we have to take it away. Oh yeah and then, when she just gets up at 3AM and wanders around before saying “I want Faif (Faith, my mom), I want to talk to her, I looooove her. Cute? Definitely for a few minutes, after ten it’s torture. Don’t get me wrong, I looooove her, too. She is great! Her sense of direction and her observation skills are amazing! My point is that these next two days might be very, very long, and daycare will definitely be my new best friend from 8-4. Otherwise my Spring Break consists of the interwebs, sleep, and homework. Yea, it’s that awesome, be jealous!

I’m stuck in this reminiscent mood. I looked up Super Nintendos and Gamecubes on Ebay. I made a list of my favorite movies/shows from childhood. If you’re a 90′s child, remember CatDog, Rocco’s Modern Life, Ducktales, and believe I could go on forever. ANy interest and I’ll just post the list. This Summer, when I finally have time to do something besides study, I feel like I’m going to delve into the past in so many ways. I’m way overdue on playing and winning my next game of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Not only am I looking to the past, but the movies coming out look great. This Summer and Fall are awesome, at least for me. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Breaking Dawn Part 1, and Xmen First Class! I’m so pumped, and then I’m excited for Jane Eyre, Suckerpunch, and The Smurf Movie! Yikes, there are so many distractions! Also, I can’t wait to watch Dexter this Fall! I’m totally hooked (Best show I’ve ever seen!). Michael and I are getting Six Feet Under from Netflix just because Michael C. Hall is in it too. I used to watch it when it was on and really enjoyed it. I’m so excited for next season! I saw a Rav4 a few weeks ago, and it reminded me of a season 1 episode, I’ve been craving the next season so badly ever since. Obviously I’m super cool, because I see a Rav4 from a bus window and think Dexter. #winning

Musically, I’ve been all over the place, but a little eclectic at this moment. I’ve listened to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for hours now. Also, The Pierces and The Plasticines are definitely in my top ten right now, as is The Audition, which is completely out of place.

I’m seriously all over the place! Ugh, I might lose my mind! I’m proud of this little tidbit though. I’m helping write the Remote Sensing High School Science Olympiad Test with my advisor and a small group of students in Atmospheric Sciences. I used to take those tests and such in high school. It’s definitely a win in my book.

And we finally signed a lease for next year at a great apartment. It’s way bigger and I’m really pumped. How can I possibly wait until August!?

So I’ve shared my current scatterbrained life, so be back soon!

Kels

So, the huge news today is that it’s Unofficial. Great. I’m really not so pumped. People get wasted all of the time, why do we need a special day for ridiculous overconsumption of alcohol?! The good thing is the cute shirts, but really if you’re legal, or really in college can’t you do this at anytime? I’m really not into embarrassing public intoxication, it just makes people look so immature, but to each his own, right. I know it’s called “the college experience,” but I get so annoyed seeing people get wasted and barely try at all, and still do well when I work my butt off here. Maybe I’m just an idiot and everyone else is way better than me or they’re exaggerating or way better at guessing things they really don’t know. Whatever it may be, it just is a major pet peeve of mine. What happened to participation points? I’m being such a Debbie Downer, I know. I’ve had an exam, went apartment hunting, and oh joy, I get to go to work in a mere hour. I’m really not looking forward to working from 9:00PM-5:00AM (Stop serving at 3:00 AM) to serve people who are going to be annoying and rude. My typical quote from late night, “No, the bathroom is closed, sorry.” “WTF!” “You definitely can’t go now, congrats.” I foresee this happening double as much tonight. Piece of advice for when you’re the problem, try your best to be polite or I will make you leave, or give you amazingly wicked looks until you do. >:/ Emoticon (ascii?)doesn’t do me justice.

We went apartment hunting, as I mentioned. We found one we really like, but we have another appointment next Friday, and I’m so excited. We drove by one of the places we’re going to view. I really hope it’s great on the inside. Gah! I can’t wait!

Well, huff. Rant and excitement has been expressed.

Later,

Well, the spring semester has started. So far, I’ve had ups and downs. Most of my teachers are pretty great. Michael and my Calculus three professor is the exception. He’s not awful, but he tells story after story. Honestly, he’s pretty strange. He compared Calculus to riding a horse. Yea, about that. I have my advisor for a teacher again and he’s great! My gpa goal is really high this semester to make up for my shortcomings last semester. I have five courses, but so far three of them are relatively easy. I’m taking a basic Atmospheric sciences course, Matlab, World Religions, Physics 212 (E and M), and Math 241 (Calc 3). It really doesn’t seem like as heavy a load as last semester.

So I mentioned Ratchet and Clank a few posts ago, and I still absolutely love it! It’s great. I get so into it and can play for hours. But I have to be careful with my time now =( . Darn. Michael and I found another game that we are absolutely addicted to! It’s called Minecraft, google it. It’s really simple looking, but you get sucked in. It’s really about survival and mining fun things. It’s hard to describe besides awesome. Michael and I have been playing multi-player. We’ve built two awesome homes.

Back to homework, unfortunately.

Be back soon,

Well, this is our last night at home for Christmas. Kelsey and I are headed back to the apartment tomorrow afternoon. It will be nice to be back to our normal routineyI like being home, but after a while I get homesick of my other home at school, lol.

I got a new laptop from my parents for Christmas, it is a HP Envy 14, and is awesome. It is a lot lighter and smaller than my older laptop and is a lot better built for my needs at school. The entire chassis is made of a metal alloy and is almost always cool to the touch. The keyboard is island style, similar to a Macbook. It has a fast Core i5 processor with six gigs of ram for some pretty fast computations. One of the coolest things, however, is the switchable graphics. It has both an integrated Intel graphics chipset, and a dedicated ATI card. I have it set up to automatically switch to the integrated graphics when it is running on battery, which saves a lot of power. The ATI card is fairly powerful though, so when I am plugged in it can actually handle quite a bit of graphical work and gaming.

The battery life is well over three hours when doing simple tasks such as word processing and browsing the web. There is an added accessory that I may end up purchasing eventually called the Slice battery. It is a very thin battery that is the size of the bottom of the laptop. It connects to the bottom and extends the battery life to up to ten hours! It does add another pound or so of weight though and makes the laptop a little bit thicker. It may be nice to have thought on days when I know that I will be needing my laptop in class a lot.

I’m sure one of us will post another update when we get back to the apartment.

Until then,
Michael

Christmas break at home has been pretty long. I have family visiting, but honestly sometimes you just need a break. I miss the apartment and our routines. My sleeping is out of whack! It has been good to back home to see everyone though. My three year old cousin had a great time opening all of her gifts. She was shredding paper like crazy, and she made out like a bandit. It was great to see her excitement. Unfortunately, we got up at 7:24, and I fell asleep around 4:30, so I was exhausted. I got some fun things too.

Michael bought me a kindle and I’m so happy! I love it. It’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever gotten and it’s perfect for me. I already have tons of books on it, way too many to read anytime soon. I started Jane Eyre on it, which so far is great. It’s such a cool piece of technology. The screen is amazing. I don’t know how it works, but it’s black and white and looks like an actual page. It’s not bright like a computer screen, so there really isn’t much strain on the eyes. It’s a good size for taking with you too. It’s actually about the size of a real book, but even with the case it’s much thinner than regular books. It weighs very little, right now I have it in my purse. His parents got me a case and skin. The skin is an adorable owl. I love everything. It was a really good Christmas.

I also got the newest Ratchet and Clank game, and you have no idea how excited I am. I got the PS3 version. I love games like this, even though they seem childish. I played the demo in Walmart, and have been wanting it since then.

Happy belated Christmas to all!

Well, it is Thursday night, and I am in the library “studying” for my last final exam tomorrow. It is in Intro to Islam, a religious studies general education course I am taking to finish my requirement for non-western studies. It is mainly memorizing terms now that the professor decided to remove the essay portion from the exam (Yay!). Even though I am not too stressed about it, I will be glad when they are all over and done with; well, at least until May, lol.

Although Funk Library at UIUC is pretty nice, my times here are bitter. Although this time, I have a great view of the greenhouses and it’s beautiful with the glowing greenhouses and snow! The dread of ensuing finals brings me down though. Thus far, I’m one down, three to go on finals. The first one was iffy. I left thinking, “Wow, I bombed that, I’m definitely retaking the class.” and “Maybe that wasn’t bad, at least I answered everything.” It was Calc. two, and let me say this semester is kicking my butt. I definitely pushed too hard and am regretting it. Atmospheric Sciences is going fantastically though! I love it. My teacher/advisor is awesome. He attempts to get to know you and actually seems to care. It definitely makes a difference having a good advisor.

Yay, I’m manager at work! This really isn’t that new, though. I got it at the beginning of the semester, but I’ve clearly been MIA on here. Refer to first paragraph, when I say, “I’m getting my butt kicked!”

Hopefully, everyone likes the site upgrade! We worked pretty hard to change everything over. Let us know of any issues.

So, I’m a huge Harry Potter fan; therefore, I clearly saw the new one. I wore a HP shirt, it may have been epic. I loved it! I thought the ending was perfect and bittersweet. I didn’t think they could go any farther and stop, and it was an interesting stopping point. There was plenty of action, and if they had gone further and stopped, I would have been devastated! My main issue was actually very near the beginning, when Hedwig saved Harry instead of him using Expelliarmus, which was quite important in my opinion. Dobby’s death was a little tacky, but I still cried because I remembered my sadness when I read that part (Michael laughed. Enough said. >=/). I say 4.5/5 due to other minor issues as well.

Hopefully, I’ll be back in the next few days. =D

It’s been nice to have a break. Thanksgiving break is way too late in the school year at U of I. The only day we get off between August and Thanksgiving is Labor Day. After we get back from Thanksgiving break we only have a week and a half of class before finals, then a week of finals and then it is already Christmas break.

I haven’t got any school work done yet that I wanted to, and tomorrow (the last day of break for me) I have to help my dad outside cutting wood and preparing for winter. I’ll just have to work extra hard when we get back.

Thanksgiving dinner went well at my house, lots of family came and it was a good time. I had dinner at home around 1pm and now I am Kelsey’s house waiting to eat yet another dinner around 5pm. I might just explode from all the food. I don’t know how Ill get anything done tomorrow after the impending food coma.

I need to start working on an eleven page term paper for my Islam class that is due in a little less than two weeks. Finals are also coming up really quick and I have the normal homework assignments in between that! It’s really going to be a busy few weeks until Christmas break.
